The Canterbury
This stylish 5 bedroom home required clever design skills to incorporate a three car garage and games room in the re-inforced concrete basement structure. From the outside all that can be seen are the garage doors.
The Goldstone
This substantial detached 4-bedroomed, double-fronted, home combines traditional features with modern design and convenience. The unique design includes authentic oak beams, a farmhouse style cooking range with oak mantel and a beautiful pine barley twist galleried staircase.
The Harbledown
Set within a conservation area, planning regulations restricted this property to using its existing floor area only. Once again, clever design together with the use of reclaimed stone and roofing materials produced a stylish family home that blended in perfectly with the surrounding village. Where original features had to be replaced top quality custom built materials were incorporated. In this case high quality sash windows with stone heads, sills and mullions were used.
The Eco house
A commission by a private client for a stylish but low carbon house presented a new challenge for us. Energy efficient houses inevitably impact on design with increased glazing on south facing elevations with reduced window area on north facing walls.
Rising to the challenge of the companies first eco house Kent Building Developments produced the classy brick and cedar eco house which was completed in summer 2009. Combining style with energy efficiency this revolutionary house benefits from a level of insulation that means it requires the equivalent of only 3 bars of an electric fire and this only when the temperature drops below -5C. The small amount of heating needed is supplied by a wood burning stove making the eco house carbon neutral.
One of the special features of this type of custom built home is the Mechanical Ventilation Heat Exchange unit which means the air from inside warms up the fresh air coming in, so 80% of the heat is retained. Constantly filtered air means this system is excellent for allergy sufferers. Solar panels provide heating for domestic hot water and insulation is provided by recycled newspaper insulation.
